Ammonium Sulphate

Ammonium Sulphate

Ammonium sulphate is a highly soluble nitrogen–sulfur fertilizer widely used in field crops, horticulture, and landscaping. It supplies readily available ammonium nitrogen and sulfate sulfur, improves chlorophyll formation, and supports protein synthesis, especially in sulfur-deficient soils.

With an acidifying effect, it is preferred on alkaline and calcareous soils or where pH control is important. Its uniform crystalline granules handle well in blending, broadcasting, and fertigation systems.

Sr. No. Description Specification
1 Purity 99% minimum
2 Chemical Formula (NH₄)₂SO₄
3 Form White to off-white crystalline granules or powder
4 Country of origin India
5 Quantities 25 kg bags, 50 kg bags, and bulk in metric tons
  • White, odourless crystals with a density of around 1.77 g/cm³ and high water solubility.
  • Contains about 21% nitrogen and 24% sulfur, providing dual nutrients in one product.
  • Stable, non-combustible, and non-volatile under normal storage conditions.
  • Slightly acid-forming in soil, helping to reduce pH over time.
  • Granular N–S fertilizer for cereals, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, and turf.

  • Raw material in compound fertilizers and NPK blends.

  • Additive in food, fermentation, and industrial processes requiring ammonium or sulfate ions (appropriate grades only).

  • Precursor in various inorganic salt syntheses and water treatment formulations.

  • Low insolubles and caking index to ensure smooth flow through applicators.

  • Dust may irritate eyes, skin, and respiratory tract; use gloves, goggles, and dust mask, and ensure ventilation during handling.

  • Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated areas away from strong oxidizers and reactive metals.

  • Avoid over-application near water bodies to reduce nutrient runoff and eutrophication risk.
